The purple firefish is a member of the family Microdesmidae, which are often referred to as firefishes or dartfishes. It is a hardy fish that readily acclimates to the home aquarium. It is the most aggressive of the firefish species. It will ignore its tankmates, with the possible exception of other firefish species. It may be picked on by more pugnacious fish. Firefish can jump from open tanks.
